Patella lusitanica, P. coerulea and P. ulyssiponensis L. are the Patella species commonly occurring on the rocky shores of the Mediterranean Sea including Malta. Identification of these speceise needs further study of a clean shell (hence not covered with algae as in the images below) and study of anatomical features of the underside (soft and living) part.
